Chairman
Welcome to the website for the 2008 Arundel Town Festival. This website aims to inform you through our brochure which you can view online. It will also point you in the right direction to buy tickets or find information about many of the festivals' activities.
Now in its 31st year and following the retirement from the Fringe of Don Ayling after many long years of selfless hard work, it was felt a bit of reorganising was necessary to pull all the elements of the Festival together. So, under the Chairmanship of Bill Beere, we’ve become the Arundel Town Festival.
Although we’re still in a period of transition, we’ve managed to put together a really exciting series of events including some new departures and the return of some old favourites. As well as the ever-popular Gallery Trail, Theatre Trail, concerts and other theatre and music events, there’s the Arundel Town Fair on Bank Holiday Monday, music in the Jubilee Gardens, the return of Shakespeare to the Castle and thanks to the very generous sponsorship of Terry Bedford, a last night fireworks extravaganza.
We hope to use this year’s Festival as a stepping-stone to something much bigger and better in 2009. This year the main issue that we’ve had to wrestle with is a lack of money. As soon as this years festival is over work will start to raise funds for next year and we’ll be looking for sponsors both large and small. We would welcome any inquiries from potential sponsors for all the events next year but we are also hoping to start a Friends scheme offering priority booking, discounted tickets, a regular newsletter with updates on developments. Please get in touch via e-mail here if you can help in any way.
Meanwhile, browse through the brochure to see what’s on offer and go out and buy some tickets. It promises to be a great week so don’t stay at home watching television – you might make new discoveries that could potentially change your life!
